LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lady Gaga is up for a People’s Choice Award not for her singing, but for her acting. She is up for sci-fi/fantasy TV actress for her work on “American Horror Story: Hotel.” Rihanna and Selena Gomez are both nominated for favorite animated movie voice. The Weeknd has picked up five nominations, more than any other musician. Other nominees include Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Fetty Wap, Taylor Swift, Madonna, Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran and Carrie Underwood. Voting is open at PeoplesChoice.com until December 3. The awards will be given out January 6.
Deen Castronovo Issues Apologies After Completing Rehab
UNDATED (AP) Former Journey drummer Deen Castronovo says if he had not been arrested, he would probably be dead. Castronovo writes on his website he made a plea deal in his domestic violence case involving his ex-fiancee’ and was sentenced to four years of probation. Castronovo says he has completed a drug treatment program and he has realized he hit bottom. Castronovo is apologizing to his ex, as well as the members of Journey and Journey fans. Castronovo says he will now devote his time to his family and to promoting sober living.
Supreme Courts Turns Away Bob Marley’s Case
WASHINGTON (AP) The Supreme Court has turned down the chance to discuss Bob Marley’s face. The justices let stand a lower court ruling that said merchandisers had used Marley’s likeness to sell clothes without permission from Marley’s children, who have their own company. The clothes were sold in stores like Walmart and Target. Marley’s heirs had sued rival companies in 2008, claiming their Marley merchandise violated federal trademark law.
Macy’s Parade Announces Musical Lineup
NEW YORK (AP) Mariah Carey, Jennifer Nettles, Andy Grammer and Train are among the acts who will perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Others in the lineup include Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Plain White T’s, Daughtry, Rachel Platten, Jordin Sparks, Shawn Mendes, MercyMe, Jake Owen, Panic At The Disco, Prince Royce, Trey Songz and Questlove with The Muppets.
Adele’s “Hello” becomes First Million-Seller in a Week
NEW YORK (AP) Adele has shattered the record for the most downloads in a week with her new song, “Hello.” Nielsen Music says “Hello” has sold 1.11 million digital downloads. It’s the first song to sell more than a million tracks in a week. The previous record-holder was “Right Round” by Flo Rida (RY’-dah), with 636,000 downloads in a week.
Ian Anderson Presents the Story of Jethro Tull
CHICAGO (AP) — Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull purposely avoided learning about Jethro Tull the agricultural pioneer for years. Anderson says he was embarrassed that their agent named the band after a dead guy in 1968 and Anderson felt getting close to Tull would be a betrayal. Anderson changed his mind a year ago and wrote a stage production based on Tull. Anderson says he was amazed how many parallels there were between Tull’s life and Anderson’s songs. Anderson says it’s not boring because it incorporates the greatest hits of Jethro Tull the band and he’s writing a show for toe-tappers. The show began its North American tour last night in Chicago.
Michael Jackson Leads Top-Earning Dead Celebrities
NEW YORK (AP) — Michael Jackson made more money last year than most of us will see in a lifetime. Jackson tops Forbes magazine’s list of the top-earning dead celebrities. Jackson’s estate earned $115 million in the past year, mostly through his music catalog, his Las Vegas show and his half of the Sony/ATV publishing empire. Elvis Presley is second, pulling in $55 million last year. “Peanuts” creator Charles Schulz is third, followed by Bob Marley and Elizabeth Taylor.
Rod Stewart’s Son Makes a Career in Hockey
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Anchorage’s development league pro hockey team could have some star power sitting in the stands. The Anchorage Aces have signed Liam Stewart, son of Rod Stewart and supermodel Rachel Hunter. Liam Stewart says he didn’t want to be that kid who lazes around the house and stays in his parents’ shadow. He spent four years playing junior hockey in Spokane, Washington, and was proud to be known simply as “Stewie.” He says being known as just one of the guys was “awesome.”
Sting Sells His Art
LONDON (AP) — Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, are selling their modern art. Christie’s auction house in London will sell their collection that includes works by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Rene Magritte and Gustav Klimt. The top lot is a painting by British artist Ben Nicholson called “March 55 (Amethyst).” It’s expected to sell for between $460,000 and $765,000. The couple also plan to sell their Steinway piano. The auction is set for February 24.
Billy Joel Will Sing Before Game 3
NEW YORK (AP) — Billy Joel will sing the national anthem before Game 3 of the World Series. A spokesman for Joel confirms the news to Newsday. Game 3 between the Mets and the Royals will be Friday in New York.
