Bob Dylan – Mural

August 27, 2015

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — It’s not quite a village. But it is taking a fairly large team of artists to raise up a mural honoring Bob Dylan. It’s being done in downtown Minneapolis, where artists are starting to paint what will become a 60-foot tall, 150-foot wide portrait of Dylan. The artwork is being done as part of an effort to revitalize downtown Minneapolis by creating a cultural district.

Bob Dylan – Auction

August 26, 2015

LONDON (AP) — Another set of lyrics to a Bob Dylan classic song is going up for sale. This time, it’s the draft lyrics to the song “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” — and Sotheby’s says the manuscript is expected to bring in between $235,000 and $314,000 when it’s put up for bids Sept. 29 in London. The auction house says Dylan typed the lyrics and made edits on the page in ink as he toiled away on the song in a room above a New York City folk club in 1962. Dylan’s lyrics have fetched big bucks before. The final handwritten lyrics to the same song went for $485,000. And a draft of Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” sold for $2 million.

Neil Young Duets with Jimmy Fallon

August 26, 2015

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Neil Young does a great Jimmy Fallon impersonation. Or was it the other way around? It was hard to tell at times last night, as Fallon had the veteran rock star on “The Tonight Show.” After the first commercial break, Young was introduced — and the TV audience saw a performer on a stool, wearing a large hat, a harmonica around his neck and strumming a guitar. It was Fallon, performing “Old Man.” Eventually, Young joined Fallon and they finished the tune together. Young also performed with The Roots — the show’s house band — to close out the show.

Musicians Set to Help Stephen Colbert Kick Off Show

August 25, 2015

NEW YORK (AP) — Recently Bruce Springsteen and Foo Fighters helped end the run of some top TV hosts. And now that he’s taking over one of those franchises, Stephen Colbert (kohl-BEHR’) is calling on some musical big guns to get the ball rolling. Kendrick Lamar and Toby Keith are among the performers lined up for the first weeks of “The Late Show” when Colbert takes the reins on Sept. 8. Lamar will get a bonus turn; he’ll both perform and be interviewed by the host. Also performing in that first week will be Troubled Waters — and they will also get the interview treatment from Colbert.

She says she’s considering opening an entertainment venue that includes fine food, a nightclub and a museum. Franklin says she’s found a potential location in downtown Detroit and she’ll announce details later.

Gene Simmons – Investigation

August 21, 2015

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police say a task force investigating Internet crimes against children has served a search warrant at the home of Kiss member Gene Simmons. But authorities say neither Simmons nor anyone in his family is suspected in the case. A LAPD spokesman says the warrant was served yesterday at the Simmons home in Benedict Canyon near Beverly Hills — but the detectives involved are emphasizing that both Simmons and his family were “extremely cooperative” — and none of them is suspected of a crime. Police would give no further comment on the investigation. Simmons is 65 and has been a central member of Kiss since the early 1970s.

The team will give away figurines based on the Dead’s dancing bears logo and shoot off fireworks with Dead music as the soundtrack. The San Francisco Giants held Grateful Dead Night last week.

August 14, 2015

NEW YORK (AP) — The musical based on the songs of ABBA is getting near to its final performance. “Mamma Mia!” will close on Broadway on September 12 after a 14-year run. Judy McLane, who currently plays the lead role of Donna, says the reason the show works is because it’s an antidepressant. She says, “Don’t take Zoloft. Come see our show.”

Alice Cooper Revives Hollywood Vampires

August 13, 2015

NEW YORK (AP) — Alice Cooper says the only requirement to get into his 1970s group Hollywood Vampires was to out-drink everyone else. Past members included John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon, Jim Morrison and Micky Dolenz. Cooper has been sober for years but brought back Hollywood Vampires as a music project that includes Johnny Depp and Joe Perry. They will play two shows in Los Angeles in September. Hollywood Vampires will release an album on September 11 that includes collaborations with Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Perry Farrell, Kip Winger, Robbie Krieger of The Doors, Joe Walsh, Slash and Brian Johnson of AC/DC.
