NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — It doesn’t look like Bob Dylan will play this year’s Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island — even though he has a standing invitation to do so. But his presence will be felt. It was at the event 50 years ago that Dylan made rock history — by ditching his acoustic guitar and going electric. The three-song set is seen as one of the key events in rock ‘n’ roll history — because it got other acts to plug in and make new audiences. How big of an event? The Fender Stratocaster Dylan played at Newport was sold at auction for nearly $1 million. It remains the highest price paid for a guitar at auction. The festival runs July 24-26.
Bob Marley – Baltimore
NEW YORK (AP) — Bob Marley has been dead for decades. But his music continues to affect people. That was most recently seen in Baltimore — a city rocked by rioting after a black man died after being taken into police custody. The city’s flagship theater has opened a musical about Marley and the launch came amid the civil unrest. A new scene was added to the production, to incorporate the strife. And earlier this month, the cast of the show took to the streets to do a free concert, featuring Marley’s iconic hit, “One Love.”
B.B. King Services
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The allegations about how B.B. King came to his end won’t affect plans for his final goodbyes. King’s embalmed body was autopsied Sunday — after a weekend service in Las Vegas and before it was moved to the site of other memorials later this week in Memphis, Tennessee — and Saturday’s planned funeral in Indianola, Mississippi.
Rolling Stones Launch Tour

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Next stop for The Rolling Stones: Columbus, Ohio. The second gig in the 15-city “Zip Code” tour will be Saturday. The tour kicked off with a sold-out performance in San Diego. One of the big features of the set up — a long catwalk that extends from the stage into the audience. During Sunday’s show, Mick Jagger sprinted along the length of the catwalk and across the stage attached to it.
Elton John Attends Grammar School Reunion
LONDON (AP) — The Pinner County Grammar School in London held a reunion for the class of 1958 and Elton John showed up. John posts on Instagram he has not seen many of his schoolmates in more than 50 years and it was as if they had never left school. While his classmates may have been impressed he attended, John was more impressed that his oldest pal, Keith Francis, made it. John says Francis flew all the way from Australia for the reunion.
B.B. King’s Daughter Will Hold Tribute
LAS VEGAS (AP) — B.B. King’s eldest daughter is inviting the public to see her father’s body, then celebrate his life. Shirley King will hold a free musical tribute tonight in Las Vegas. A public viewing for her father will be held this afternoon in Las Vegas. Shirley King says when people are done being sad about her father’s death, she wants them to come out and let the good times roll.
Jonathan Edwards Reveals He Was Adopted And He Gave Up A Child
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The man who turned “Sunshine” into a hit in 1971 is giving a clue to the secrets of his past with his new album cover. Jonathan Edwards says the photograph used as the cover art for his new album “Tomorrow’s Child” is Edwards himself as a child, taken on the day he was adopted. Moreover, Edwards reveals he gave up a child for adoption before his music career took off. Decades later, he has reunited with both his birth mother and the daughter he gave up. He writes about those emotions in the song “Jonny’s Come Home.” ”Tomorrow’s Child” comes out June 23.
B.B. King Will Be Buried At His Museum
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — B.B. King will be laid to rest at the museum that bears his name in his hometown. King will be buried at the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretative Center in Indianola, Mississippi, on May 30. A public viewing is scheduled for today in Las Vegas, with a private service for relatives on Saturday. King’s body will be flown to Memphis on Wednesday and driven in a procession on Beale Street. The B.B. King museum will hold a public viewing on May 29 with a funeral on May 30. The museum’s director, Dion Brown, says they feel comfortable knowing King’s grave will receive perpetual care at the museum.
Barbra Streisand Will Write Life Story
NEW YORK (AP) — Barbra Streisand has talked about writing her autobiography for years. Now she’s got a deadline. Streisand has a deal with Viking to publish her autobiography in 2017. It does not yet have a title. Streisand has said she wanted to write her memoir to clear up myths that have come up in unauthorized books about her.
“What A Wonderful World” Honored By Songwriters Hall of Fame
NEW YORK (AP) — The Songwriters Hall of Fame will honor not just songwriters this year, but a song. “What A Wonderful World” wins the Towering Song Honors for influencing American culture. The song was written by George David Weiss and Bob Thiele and recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1967. It did not even crack the top 40 when it came out, but it hit number 32 in 1988 after it was used in the film “Good Morning, Vietnam.” The Songwriters Hall of Fame will induct Bobby Braddock, Willie Dixon, Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia, Toby Keith, Cyndi Lauper and Linda Perry on June 18 in New York.
