LOS ANGELES (AP) — William Guest was one of men who as The Pips, did the background vocals for Gladys Knight and the Pips. He performed through the lifespan of the group, which was together from 1953 through 1989. You can hear his work harmonizing behind Knight on songs like “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” Gladys Knight and the Pips were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Apollo Hall of Fame in 2006. Another group member, Edward Patten — also a cousin of Gladys Knight — died in 2005.
