The Real “Dear Prudence” Tells Her Story

September 8, 2015

NEW YORK (AP) — Why wouldn’t Prudence in the Beatles song “Dear Prudence” come out to play? She was meditating for five days straight. Prudence Farrow Bruns tells Rolling Stone magazine she was trying so hard for enlightenment at the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s retreat in India in 1968 that she didn’t eat, sleep or go to the bathroom. Farrow Bruns’ sister, actress Mia Farrow, attended the retreat, along with The Beatles. Farrow Bruns says she remembers John Lennon tinkering away on his guitar every afternoon. She still likes the song and says it “epitomized what the Sixties were about in many ways.” Farrow Bruns has written a book called “Dear Prudence: The Story Behind The Song.”
