Bob Dylan’s Guitar Returns To The Newport Folk Festival

July 27, 2015

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — The guitar Bob Dylan used when he “went electric” at the Newport Folk Festival 50 years ago was at the festival again this weekend. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay bought the Fender Stratocaster in 2013 for $965,000, the most expensive guitar ever sold at auction. The curator of Irsay’s rare guitar collection brought it to the festival this weekend. It has not been played in public in 50 years. Al Kooper, who performed on July 25, 1965, with Dylan, was among those who played yesterday. Others included David Rawlings, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Hozier.
